D-Freeze Freeze Dryers
Freeze dry your garden harvest, meat and cooked meals, then keep them on the shelf instead of in the freezer. D-Freeze units are made for homesteaders, small farms, preppers and off-grid families. Compare tray size, batch capacity and outlet needs below, and call us if you need help choosing.
How freeze drying works
A freeze dryer first freezes the food solid inside a sealed chamber. A vacuum pump then lowers the pressure, and gentle heat turns the ice straight into vapour without melting it. What is left is light, dry food that keeps its shape and comes back to life when you add water. Every D-Freeze model on this page comes with a 7 CFM NAVAC NP7DP vacuum pump with an oil filter and de-watering kit.
Choosing tray size and capacity
Entry Commercial and Elite: 5 half baker trays (13 x 18 x 1 in.), about 20 to 28 lb of fresh food per batch. The unit measures 23 in. wide x 24 in. deep x 36 in. tall and weighs about 200 lb.
Standard Commercial: 5 full baker trays (18 x 26 x 1 in.), about 40 to 50 lb of fresh food per batch. The unit measures 27 in. wide x 37 in. deep x 43 in. tall and weighs about 250 lb.
If you put up a big garden, raise livestock or sell food, the full-tray unit means fewer batches. For a family pantry, a half-tray unit takes less room. All three come with aluminum trays, with a stainless steel upgrade available.
Power needs
The Entry Commercial runs on a standard 15-amp household outlet (average 8.9 to 9 amps, 11.8 FLA), with an optional 20-amp upgrade. The Elite comes with the 20-amp upgrade. The Standard Commercial needs a dedicated 20-amp outlet (15.8 FLA, 10.9 average amps). Have a licensed electrician check your panel and outlet before the unit arrives. On solar, a freeze dryer runs for long stretches, so plan your batteries and inverter with our solar sizing calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How long does freeze-dried food keep?
D-Freeze lists a shelf life of up to 25+ years on its Entry Commercial and Standard Commercial pages. Real results depend on the food, how dry it gets and how you package and store it. Airtight packaging kept in a cool, dark place makes a big difference.
What is the difference between the Entry Commercial and the Elite?
Both use 5 half trays and hold about 20 to 28 lb per batch. Both offer heat settings up to 175°F and 100+ custom recipe slots. The Elite adds the 20-amp power upgrade, a collapsible 5-tray processing rack and an auxiliary repressurization line.
Do you install freeze dryers?
No. We ship the unit to you by freight carrier. Plan a level spot near the right outlet, and line up help to move a machine that weighs 200 lb or more.
