Off-Grid and Hybrid Inverters for Canadian Homes

The inverter turns battery and solar power into split-phase AC for your 120 V and 240 V circuits. Choose a Growatt SPF-DVM off-grid inverter at 6, 8 or 12 kW, or a LuxPower LXP-LB-US hybrid inverter at 8, 10 or 12 kW for systems that may also connect to the grid.

Off-grid or hybrid: what is the difference?

The Growatt SPF-DVM series is an all-in-one off-grid inverter. Each unit combines an MPPT solar charge controller, a low-frequency pure sine wave inverter with a copper transformer, and a UPS function. It accepts power from a generator or the grid, and you choose grid or solar priority on the LCD screen.

The LuxPower LXP-LB-US series is a hybrid inverter. It works in off-grid, grid-tied and backup systems, with a separate generator port, AC coupling, peak shaving and smart load control. Pick a hybrid if your property has a grid connection now, may get one later, or if you want the grid as a backup. It is also the inverter used in all of our complete solar kits.

Split-phase power for 240 V loads

All six inverters on this page have split-phase output. One unit can feed 120 V circuits for lights and outlets and 240 V circuits for loads such as many deep well pumps, a dryer or a shop tool.

How many kW do you need?

  • Add up the watts of everything that could run at the same time, then add a margin.

  • Motors in pumps, fridges, freezers and compressors draw a surge when they start. Plan for that peak.

  • A cabin with lights, a fridge and a small pump usually sits at the lower end of the range. A year-round home with a well pump, laundry and a workshop usually looks at 10 or 12 kW.

  • LuxPower models can run up to 10 units in parallel, so capacity can grow with you.

Matching the inverter to a 48 V battery

The LuxPower 8 kW and 10 kW product pages list 48 V battery compatibility, and the Volthium battery page names LuxPower among its compatible inverter brands. The Growatt pages do not state a battery voltage, so contact us to confirm a match with our batteries before you order. OffGrid Nexus does not offer installation: have a licensed electrician install and connect your inverter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run the inverter with a generator?

Yes. The Growatt SPF-DVM models accept generator or grid input, and the LuxPower models have a dedicated generator port. The 12 kW LuxPower lists up to 21.6 kW of generator or AC coupling input.

Can the inverter be mounted outdoors?

The LuxPower 8 kW page lists an IP65 enclosure for indoor or outdoor installation. The other pages do not state an IP rating, so plan a dry indoor location unless we confirm otherwise.

Can I monitor my system from my phone?

The Growatt models accept an optional plug-and-play Wi-Fi/GPRS module for phone or web monitoring. The LuxPower pages mention remote control and settings updates. Ask us which monitoring parts you need.
